Because, for some reason, I am obsessed with getting Vanessa Hudgens into almost every Hate post as of late…

We here at Mechanistic Moth are fully aware of new fashion trends because, well, all three of us inhabit that dangerous place known as a college campus.  So, the budding trends rear their ugly head usually here first because it’s a breeding ground of awfulness.

The new fashion disaster: wearing tall socks that exceed past the edge of boots.  Unfortunately, they seem to serve somewhat of a practical reason; a protective layer fends off the insides of the boot rubbing against the leg.

Nevertheless, there is something very unsettling about this new trend.  I know I’ve talked about it in a 1000 Things We Hate post before – I can’t seem to recall which – the socks provide a visual cutoff to the eyes making too many horizontal layers to be visually appealing.  Now, what do I mean with this (because, I understand, it’s completely confusing)?  Basically, what I’m saying is that I like a clean look to personal style.  In the picture above, the socks just provide an element that seem unnecessary.  In fact, the look would be much cleaner/appealing without the socks peaking out, and it would emphasize the boots rather than take away from them.  And, to be fair, those are some pretty badass boots.

I suppose a big problem is that the socks draw too much attention to themselves.  I often find myself puzzling over someone’s socks poking out (by a good two inches, at least) than taking in their overall style.  I wonder “WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY THINKING” or “HOW DO THEY JUSTIFY LOOKING LIKE SHIT” or “THIS IS ONE OF THE WORST THINGS EVER” and so forth.  This is yet again one of those things that I will deeply resent people for doing it.  (I have made an exception for one friend who wears Jeggings)

Obviously, things could be a lot worse… like in the picture above (!).  Gold/Silver Hi-Top Nikes with Red and White Puma-striped Socks, Leggings as Pants, pretentious iced drink in flimsy cup, Terrible hat.

So, please, stop embarrassing yourself and making me want to vomit down your boots.  I mean, you’re so damn close to looking okay (unless you have style mishaps like above) that I want to give you a free pass.  Then I remind myself that I’m occasionally (frequently) a bad, frustrated, quirky person, and then I start hating you all over again.
