Learning a language on your own can be a lot of work, so it is important to make it fun at times. One way to make learning more fun is to learn some music. You may be wondering which music is most popular in the language you want to learn. Most countries have a list of hits, such as Billboard for English music and Oricon for Japanese music. English also has the option of using Twitter. These Twitter-using musicians have the most followers:

- Justin Bieber
- Taylor Swift
- Katy Perry
- John Mayer
- Ashley Tisdale

- Mariah Carey
- Justin Timberlake
If these are too fast at first, consider a slower genre or older music. DigitalDreamDoor has a list of the top Billboard songs from the 1950 to 2007. Many oldies make for excellent karaoke songs.
Searching Google for the lyrics will bring them up, and there may even be a video with the lyrics on Youtube. SongMeanings will help you to understand those lyrics, but singing should be fun. (I know very little German, but I can sing quite a bit of Rammstein.) Don’t worry about the meaning and work on singing like the musician you have chosen. They are your model and, usually, a native speaker of the language. Go for it!
