Tomorrow Christmas evening is coming in and the holiday spirit is starting to get to me. There was no way could let this feeling pass without submitting some kind of blog about it. The big question is, what should I write about? Since I already expressed my Christmas wish for the world earlier this week, I had to find something else. That is when I got to the following cliché, I decided to devote a blog to the Christmas song Last Christmas, which originally is played by Wham!
Don’t worry about me analyzing the song in this blog, because I wouldn’t want to bore you all to death. I just looked over Youtube to find five very different versions of the song, including the one that Wham recorded. Just to let you all have a fight about which one is the best. Whether you like the song or not, it will be a struggle to pick a winner.
Wham – Last Christmas
For a start I choose the original one, we are all very familiar with, because it has been around for ages. A lot of older readers might pick this one the best as well, because it has some nostalgic value and it is a pretty good version as well. Something I would agree on every Christmas evening and morning. It’s just a classic song, you just have to listen to it at least once every Christmas. Then again, it might just be a little old fashioned and a new 2010 version couldn’t do any harm.
Ashley Tisdale – Last Christmas
Okay, I am actually a fan to Ashley Tisdale’s music and therefore I stumbled up this version. A really poppy sound and therefore a candy sweat version. She managed to make it sound her own, with a modern days pop sound. Still, I like it. It might have something to do with the fact Ashley sings it. Maybe it has to with the fact it comes close to being that new 2010 version I am looking for. Whatever it is, you should all give it a go and make up your own mind.
Glee – Last Christmas
With Glee being a big hit in almost every country in the world, their version of this song couldn’t be left out. It sounds exactly like everyone expects it to sound when it comes from Glee. Really happy, a little Greece. High School Musical influence on it and a little exaggerated. For the ones who like their Christmas songs all happy and cheering, this might be the version to stick with. In found it quite entertaining myself, but I am not sure it will be on this Christmas.
The Final – Last Christmas
To all you rock fans out there, The Final turned this song into a good solid pop punk rock song. It surprised me it was possible to turn such a classic Christmas pop song into something that rocked. Okay, it is no heavy metal and it doesn’t come close to Green Day, The offspring and likes, but it does rock. In the end I am convinced a lot of you will like it, as long as you keep an open mind to it. The best thing to me about this song? I didn’t know who The Final was before I heard this one, so now I have to find out.
Cascada – Last Christmas
To close this contest I chose a dance version from the song, produced by Cascada. They are well known for their dance songs and did some pretty good covers as well. This one is no exception, because they gave it a typical Cascada sound. That is either something you like or you don’t, but for sure it as whole new version of the song. Although, it might be better suited for a club rather than the family dinner we are all going to have.
To close this blog I added a poll for you all, to vote which version of Last Christmas is the best one. My personal best would probably still be the original one, because I am in a nostalgic mood.
