Alyson Reed known to High School Musical fans as Mrs. Darbus, will celebrate her 51st birthday on Sunday, January 11th. Alyson was born and raised in Anaheim, California. When she was in eighth grade she played Alice in Wonderland at Disneyland. In 1976 she graduated from Anaheim High School as the first female student body president. Soon after her high school graduation she auditioned of a TV show pilot and she hasn’t looked back since.

Alyson toured the country with both Pippin and A Chorus Line. In 1985 she landed the role of Cassie in the movie version of A Chorus Line. Unfortunately, the movie was not the big hit that the studio thought it would be and all future plans with Alyson were canceled. Alyson headed back to her first love, the theatre. She headed to Broadway. Over the years she has performed in Dancin’, Cabaret, A Grand Night for Singing and several other Broadway shows.

Returning to her Orange County roots in 1990, Alyson began again working steadily on television with guest appearances on Matlock, LA Law, Frasier, Murphy Brown, JAG, The George Lopez Show and Numb3rs. She has played recurring roles on Party of Five, Providence and The Agency.

Alyson’s next big break came when her agent sent her to read for Kenny Ortega and the part of Mrs Darbus in a new Disney Channel Original Movie called High School Musical. The rest, as they say, is history. Alyson has been enjoying her ride on the High School Musical magic carpet and after all the years of mostly bit parts, I think she deserves her new-found fame.

So to Alyson/Mrs Darbus, we wish you the happiest of birthdays! You can see her this Saturday, 1/10/09 at 5:00pm on CW network’s airing of The George Lopez Show.

Continuing our series on the actors who play the smaller rolls in the High School Musical films, we focus today on Jessica Tuck-Mrs Evans. Jessica was born February 19, 1963 in New York City. She graduated from Yale University with a degree in psychology. Jessica’s big acting break came in 1988 when she landed the role of Megan Gordon Harrison on the soap opera One Life to Live. She played Megan regularly from 1988-1992 and then in guest appearances in 1993, 1999 and 2004. She was rumored to be returning again this fall but had to cancel due to her High School Musical commitments. alTuckSmall Jessica Tuck aka Mrs Evans

In addition to her role as Sharpey and Ryan’s mother in High School Musical 2 and 3, she has appeared in the movies Rising Sun, Batman Forever and she lent her voice to the character of Chris in The Little Toaster goes to Mars. She has appeared in numerous television shows also, such as; Home Improvement, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Seinfeld, and Judging Amy. She also played the part of Nicole Brown Simpson in The O.J. Simpson story.

Next week we celebrate two more High School Musical cast member birthdays. First, December 13th is Bart Johnson’s 38th birthday. Bart who plays Coach Jack Bolton in all 3 High School Musical movies. He is also slated to reprieve the role in the rumored High School Musical 4. Bart grew up hanging out on the sets of 70’s television shows; his mother was hairstylist for Mork & Mindy, The Brady Bunch and others. He decided he wanted to be an actor after performing in his high school production of West Side Story. Bart enjoys freestyle skiing , surfing, mountain biking, football, soccer, basketball, kickboxing, and flying airplanes-he got his pilot’s license in 1999.

Johnson has appeared in many television series and movies including the movies Thunder Alley, Daddy Day Camp and tv shows Saved by the Bell:The New Class, Babylon 5, and Hyperion Bay. This week you can see Bart on the Disney Channel Saturday, December 6th at 6:00pm in High School Musical andat 8:00pm in High School Musical 2. Bart also has two movies in post production and is currently filming Locker 13.

I thought we would check out some of the other actors and actresses that, though they play smaller roles, are no less important the the 6 leading characters. Today’s choice is Robert Curtis Brown. He is the actor that plays Mr Evans, Sharpay and Ryan’s father, in both High School Musical 2 and High School Musical 3. RCB Robert Curtis Brown aka Mr Evans There isn’t a lot of personal information to be found about Mr Brown, except that hew was born in April 1957 and he has a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Theatre Studies from Yale University and a Masters Degree from the Yale School of Drama…pretty impressive credentials.

Robert has been acting for a long time and has done everything from tv commercials (currently appearing in an ad for Nexium), to stage, television shows, and big screen movies. He has appeared in dramas, comedies, musicals and even a soap opera. His movie credits include parts in “Trading Places”, “Dream Girls”, “Spiderman 3″, and “Bruce Almighty”. He is currently filming “Men Who Stare at Goats” due out in 2010, in which he plays Major General Brown.

Robert’s television credits include a 2 year stint on the soap opera “Search for Tomorrow” as Alex Kendall. He has also appeared in “Matlock”, “Empty Nest”,”LA Law”, “The West Wing” and “Zenon: the Zequel”.
